An allergy is when the human immune system reacts adversely to allergen substances like mold, animal dander, dust mites, pollen, foods, insect venom or medications. Allergy testing can help reveal the exact allergens that triggered the allergy.
Allergy testing is done to determine what substance or allergen, may trigger an allergic response in a person. Allergens cause reactions like sneezing, itching, swelling, running nose (hay fever) and sometimes asthma attacks. Allergies are commonly detected through skin or blood tests. Available at Healthcare we have a test called Radioallergosorbent Testing (RAST) which may be done instead or along with a skin test.
Procedure for Allergy Testing : The blood sample will be will be processed inhouse and then sent to a lab to determine whether antibodies to any of the allergens being tested are present. If specific antibodies are detected, it may mean you are allergic to a certain allergen. Results of RAST are available in 4 days.
